Article by Chisomo Lungu

It was an interesting weekend for Zambian footballers abroad, Enock Mwepu and Patson Daka, of the Austrian contingent both played as Red Bull Salzburg won by 2 goals to nil against Sturm Graz. Mwepu, played the full 90mins and Daka came on in the 56th minute. Daka scored in the 74th minute to give Salzburg some breathing room.

Lubambo Musondas Polish side, Slask Wroclaw lost 1-0, they currently sit 9 points behind Jagiellonia Bialystok. Musonda played the whole 90 minutes.

In the Russian league, Evans Kangwa, Lameck Banda and Kings Kangwa had their Arsenal lose 2-0 to Orenbury. Kings played the full 90mins, with Evans playing 12mins. Lameck Banda did not feature.

Fashion Sakala scored the 1st goal as his team lost at home to Genk, a red card to Ooestenze 2 minutes later gave Genk the advantage and led to 2-4 victory for the away side.

In African continental football, TP Mazembe beat Raja Casablanca 1-0 in the Quarter Final clash, though they lost the tie 2-1. Former Zambian international, Rainford Kalaba was brought on in the 64th min, with Kabaso Chongo not featuring.

In South Africa, Augustine Mulenga started the match on the bench as Orlando Pirates drew 0-0 with Lamontville Golden Arrows, Mulenga was introduced in the 54th min but his introduction could not inspire his team to collect 3 points. The disappointment in the failure of teams featuring Zambians continued as Lazarus Kambole’s Chiefs side lost 1-0 to Amazulu at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg. Kambole was brought on in the 74th min to try and restore parity for the Amakhosi. It was even worse off news for Mwape Musonda, this is as his side, Black Leopards who currently sit bottom of the South African Premier league and facing down the barrel of a possible relegation, lost by 2-0 to Baroka FC. In the previous days’ fixture, Maritzburg FC beat Polokwane City at the Harry Gwala Stadium, the loss was further worsened as Zambian goalkeeper, Mwenya Chibwe was prematurely removed from the game due to an injury, his compatriot, Salulani Phiri, the former Zanaco midfielder, played the full game as Polokwane went on to concede a goal and lose the Friday night fixture.
