“THE PLAYERS ARE HERE TO DELIVER”
Bruce Mwape has heaped praise on his players after they left it late to snatch a vital 1-0 win over Tunisia in the 2022 TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Groupl B encounter.
Substitute Avell Chitundu scored a dramatic late winner in the second minute of additional time from a Grace Chanda header for a win that saw Zambia leapfrogging Tunisia to the top of Group B.
“We played well as compared to the last game we played (against Cameroon), we created a lot of chances in the first and second half, I am also happy that we defended well and we did not allow any goals so I am happy about the result,” Mwape said.
“I give credit to the players. We represented Africa and the (Tokyo) Olympics and they expected us to do better and for sure, we shall deliver. I still believe the players are here to deliver and convince the world that we can still play.”
Zambia command the table with four points followed by the Carthage Eagles while Cameroon occupy third place with two points. Togo have a point from two games.
The Copper Queens are this morning expected to shift base to Rabat for their final group B match against Togo set for Stade Prince Héritier Moulay El Hassan on Saturday 9 July at 22h00CAT.
