In a 1-0 victory over South Africa on Wednesday, Zambia humbled their opponents to earn the top spot in Group B at the TotalEngies U17 AFCON Algeria 2023 Qualifier | COSAFA as Marcel Zimba took advantage of a defensive blunder to secure the 3 points.

Zambia will now play Botswana in the semifinals while South Africa will face the hosts Malawi on Friday.

Each of the two competition finalists this year receives a spot at the April 2023 TotalEnergies U17 AFCON Algeria.

Following a scoreless first half, Zambia seized the lead when Zimba was given the easy task of placing the ball into an empty net after the South African goalie and a defender collided while chasing the ball.
