“I’M THE ONE HE WANTED TO USE”
Fresh off putting up a stellar performance, Patson Daka was called aside for a post-match interview, below is how it went.
The reporter began by asking “A goal, 4-nil win, that was pretty much a perfect day for you and the team wasn’t it?”
Patson responded, “It was perfect for us, 4 goals, clean sheet, massive win for us to build our confidence going forward.”
He was asked about what it means for Leicester, especially the clean sheet, and this is what he said.
“I think it’s really a big thing for us, we’ve been struggling a lot in keeping a clean sheet, and today we really worked hard together as a team because we understand it’s not just about the backline to defend but it’s everyone in the team, you have to defend as a team, you have to attack as a team and I think we really played according to the way we wanted today and it’s not only for us as players but also you can see how the fans enjoyed it and it was really big for us all.”
In this game week, Patson was given his first start in the EPL and was asked what was his reaction to receiving his first start, this is what he had to say:
“I think every player looks forward to starting every game but also it’s about what the coach thinks about the tactics going into that game and I believe that I’m the one he(coach) wanted to use, not to mean that I’m better than others but it’s according to the way the coach wanted to approach this game and yeah, I’m just thankful that I had my full debut here and I marked it with a goal and an assist, it was really brilliant for me, for my confidence and also for the team.”
When asked about his goal and how it came about, this is what he had to say:
“I think it’s also for everyone to see that it’s not just happening by accident but it’s something that we practice, we do this in training and we know that when this guy has the ball, he has to play in this way, then you have to be in this position and communicate with your body language, that’s what we do and today we did it again and it was a very great team goal.”
As usual, in celebration, Patson did his usual somersault and was asked how he was able to do that and this is what he had to say:
“Since I was a kid, I would be doing it just for fun, my friends and I would be doing it just for fun. Most of the time, I get lost in the moment, when celebrating, whatever comes to mind is what I will end up doing, it’s not like I planned that I will do this, I just found myself doing it.” The reporter ended his inquiry by adding “I think fans absolutely loved it.”
Asked about how long he has been a Leicester player and how he is building relationships with other attacking players in training because it looks like it’s improving day by day, Daka had this to say:
“I think it’s different when you are just training together and having to play together, I think it’s also showing that day by day we are getting to understand each other and we’re getting to know that this player plays like this and this one is like that, I think that’s what is keeping us together and we will continue building from that.”
The reporter further asked about the character of the team, in the face of all the injuries, absentees and what happened on Thursday(Napoli loss), having to come back from all that and performing the way they did, Daka had this to say:
“It’s a matter of us showing up and understanding that it is what it is, we can’t run away from it, it’s part of the game, there will be injuries, there will be whatever has to happen, but whoever is available has to give 100%, has to fight for the team, that’s why it’s a team sport, everyone has to put in the effort, everyone has to do it for those who are not present at the moment.”
