CHIPOLOPOLO BAG 6TH COSAFA TITLE
At the historic Moses Mabhida Stadium, Zambia defeated Namibia 1-0 to win the record-tying sixth Hollywoodbets Cosafa Cup trophy, capping off another outstanding regional championship on Sunday.
Albert Kangwanda’s 35-yard effort from the edge of the box deflected off the post and onto Namibia goalkeeper Edward Maova before finding the back of the net for an unlucky own goal, giving Chipolopolo the victory in extra time.
It was the game-changing moment in a close final in which both teams had additional opportunities, most notably Namibia’s Heita Immanuel, who missed a clear goal opportunity from close range.
Zambia, which won in 2019 and has now won twice in three seasons, equals Zimbabwe’s record of six championships.
Kelvin Kampamba was named Player of the Tournament and earned himself a cool R20 000, Joshua Mutale was named Man of the Match.
Zambia having won the 2022 COSAFA CUP has earned them a cool R500 000, with that in the bag, up next is the CHAN Qualifiers against Mozambique.
