Recap
Nkana FC returned to the CAF Champions League competition with a vital 2 – 1 win over Songo of Mozambique in the preliminary round of the continental competition.
Goals from Harrison Chisala and Festus Mbewe on either side of the half left Zambia’s 2018 league runners up in pole position to qualify to the first round of the competition.
Coach ‘Quicksilver’ Beston Chambeshi seems to be spoiled for options and he named a strong line-up making two changes to the team that started against Young Green Buffaloes in the final of the Barclays Cup.
Ben Bahn came in for veteran defender Joseph Musonda while Duncan Otieno joined Shadreck Malambo in midfield ahead of Jacob Ngulube.
The Kitwe giants went ahead in the 34th minute through former U20 class of 2017 star Chisala.
Nkana were dominating in the game and Songo looked to change things in the second half making three substitutes including the goalkeeper.
However, it was Nkana who extended the lead in the 80th minute when substitute Mbewe who replaced Ronald Kampamba found the back of the net.
The hosts got a face-saver in additional time through Sunday Awasa.
Nkana will host the Mozambican champions at Nkan stadium next week on Tuesday.
