FAZ TO INTRODUCE NATIONAL WOMEN LEAGUE
Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) is in the process of introducing a National Women’s Super League.
FAZ president Andrew Kamanga said the Association is working tirelessly to ensure that a National Super League is introduced.
“FAZ has made significant steps in as far as developing the women’s game locally. This can be manifested through the introduction of the Copper belt, Lusaka, Northwestern and Central Province Leagues respectively,” he said.
And Kamanga said the country has made major strides in developing women football in the country.
“FAZ is among the few Associations on the continent with three active women’s national teams which includes the U-20, U-17, and the senior women’s national team. The Association has further been instrumental in ensuring that these teams actively participate in international and regional tournaments,” he said.
“The Zambia women’s national team is this year participating in the Ghana 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and will also be actively engaged in the 2018 COSAFA regional competitions.”
He further said that the Association is currently talking to several stakeholders with an aim to attract sponsorship for women football.
“Increasing revenue streams for all our national teams remains at the pinnacle of our agenda. In the last two years, there has been some major improvements in as far as stakeholder contribution towards the development of football in the country is concerned. My Executive is also working round the clock to ensure that we find a major sponsor for the Women’s National Super League.”
Meanwhile the FAZ president said the Association will strive hard to ensure that women are given a role in the administration of football countrywide.
“Women’s participation in football administration remains on top of this Executives agenda. As an Executive, we are very proud to have a woman in the Executive Committee who has been given the mantle to administer the women’s game. Our efforts to give women a place in football administration can also be seen in the number of women who have been given roles at technical bench level,” Kamanga said.
The FAZ president was speaking in Lusaka, when he officially opened the FAZ organized Women’s Football seminar whose theme is: ‘Raising the game for women football in Zambia.’
