COPPER QUEENS RECEIVE $5000

Jewel of Africa has made a $5,000 donation to the FIFA Women’s World Cup bound Zambia Women’s National Team.

The donation follows an auction of a football necklace with a 71.62ct Zambian Black Tourmaline (Schorl), wrapped in a dome-shaped outer shell in Zambian 95% pure Silver. Higer Bus Zambia Limited, who were the highest bidder of the necklace splashed in a cool $5,000 (about K96,731) that Jewel of Africa has donated to the Copper Queens.

“Jewel of Africa is extremely proud of the Copper Queens making it to the World Cup and in order to raise funds for their smooth journey, the company made a medal when the Barcelona legends were here last week and we raised $5,000 for the Copper Queens. I hope this will go a long way for their kick-off and eventual win for Zambia,” Jewel of Africa chief executive officer Rashmi Sharma said.

“Sports need funding, I am a woman and I am going to support the women’s football, team for as long as I can by creating more and more pieces that we can auction off and the world will appreciate and bid higher amounts for. I am in it for the long haul and as long as Jewel of Africa can do this, we will carry on supporting and I am hoping other companies will join in with their products.”

Higer Bus Zambia Limited general manager Wu Ming says they bought the jewel to support the Copper Queens a few months after they donated a minibus to the side.

“This is not the end, we are together and will give you more support in future,” Ming said.

FAZ deputy general manager Joseph Chimpampwe thanked Jewel of Africa, Higer Bus Zambia, Pitch Direct and other partners for delivering the donation to the women’s national team.

“I am here to say thank you for coming on board, you coming in will help and we thank you for this cheque. All the Copper Queens appreciate this and you should continue supporting us,” Copper Queens captain Barbra Banda said in a vote of thanks.

The Copper Queens are in Group C alongside Spain, Costa Rica and Japan at the one-month long event that will be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand from July 20.
